US investigation of vaping-related illnesses focuses on THC – RADIO.COM

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) — Health officials say their investigation into a recent outbreak of severe vaping-related illnesses is increasingly focused on products that contain THC.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday most people who got sick vaped THC, the ingredient that produces a high in marijuana.A new study published by CDC found two-thirds who got sick in Illinois and Wisconsin said they vaped prefilled THC cartridges msarked “Dank Vapes” from one brand.

“Dank Vapes appears to be the most prominent in a class of largely counterfeit brands, with common packaging that is easily available online and that is used by distributors to market THC-containing cartridges with no obvious centralized production or distribution,” said a report published on Friday by state health officials from Illinois and Wisconsin, and from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.No single device, ingredient or additive has been identified but an investigation is ongoing.So far, at least 805 people, from 46 states and one U.S. territory have become ill.

Thirteen deaths have been reported, from 10 states.
