CBD TINCTURES AND INFUSED PRODUCTS
What Is CBD Tincture?
CBD tincture is a concentrated liquid form of the cannabis plant. Depending on the plant type is how your tincture will have in it. If, for example, you use a high THC strain, then you will end up with a FULL Spectrum THC Tincture, which has not only the cannabinoid CBD but all of the cannabinoids in the plant.
This type of CBD extract will get you high! (This is not the type of CBD tincture we have on this site as it is only available in licensed stores in states with recreational cannabis.)
The CBD tincture we have here on The Vape Report is extracted from Hemp crops, with <.3% THC, so it can be sold everywhere and still carries all the benefits of cannabinoid extracts and will not get you high or make you fail drug tests.
CBD Is Biphasic
The National Institutes of Health reports that CBD is biphasic, where low concentrations stimulate activity, while higher concentrations limited activity.
Full Spectrum CBD Tinctures
Full-spectrum CBD refers to any CBD product that contains no more than .3% THC allowed by law in the US. Many people prefer full-spectrum CBD oil because of the “entourage effect.”
The Entourage Effect referred to that comes from full-spectrum CBD is a theorized efficacy that is reached as a sort of ‘harmony’ among the interactions of ALL the plant compounds which make the overall effectiveness of CBD benefits greater than any of CBD individual chemicals by themselves can achieve.
Broad Spectrum CBD Tinctures
Broad-spectrum CBD refers to any CBD product that is made with 0% THC. With this type of CBD you still get all of the benefits of the hemp proteins, EFA’s, cannabinoids, and vitamins without the THC and associated high that comes with THC.
Metabolizing CBD and CYP450 Enzymes
CYP450 Enzymes and Grapefruit
You may have seen a warning on a medication that reads, “Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medication.” This warning is included because grapefruit can change the way your body metabolizes certain drugs.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice contain compounds known as furanocoumarins. When furanocoumarins come into contact with CYP450 enzymes in the gut, they permanently bind to the enzyme. This essentially makes the enzymes completely inactive so they are not able to metabolize drugs in a normal manner.
This effect does not wear off after a few hours. Instead, your body has to make a new batch of enzymes in order for drug metabolism to return to normal, a process that can take as much as 72 hours.
This same monopoly of the CYP450 enzymes happens as a reaction with CBD with about the same amount of time to recover new enzymes. If you don’t have a problem with grapefruit and medication then you shouldn’t have a problem with CBD interactions in the same way. (Always consult your doctor for guidance in this area if your unsure or otherwise have questions about it).
Another way around this problem altogether is to avoid digestion via the stomach and liver and take CBD sublingual using a tincture.
SUB-LINGUAL TINCTURE | PREFERRED WAY TO TAKE CBD
Recent research has led to the conclusion that CBD may have adverse effects on the liver in high dosages. This is yet to be confirmed as a final disposition on the matter. Beyond this, there is also the digestion enzyme monopoly issue mentioned above.
In light of this, one of the best ways, if the best out of all methods, to take CBD is under the tongue (sub-lingual). By taking CBD this way you can bypass stomach and liver digestion by taking the CBD directly into the bloodstream where it has the most benefits. Normal 1st pass metabolism through the stomach and the liver loses between 15% to 25% of CBD compounds’ benefits and effectiveness.
Taking CBD Sub-Lingual (under the tongue) to bypass 1ST PASS metabolism
The percentage that a substance is absorbed into the body is referred to as bioavailability. This study found that on average, taking CBD under the tongue increases the amount that’s absorbed by the body by 15-25% rather than if it’s swallowed.
Hepatic Metabolism
In some cases, hepatic drug metabolism in the patient may prevent sufficient quantities of the drug from entering the bloodstream, a phenomenon called the first-pass effect. Some drugs are administered by other means, such as inhalation or injection, to avoid this effect.

Just exaclty how many different types of ailments does CBD help? And why so many? Is it a miracle drug of some sort?
Although much is unknown as of yet in that CBD hasn’t been widely tested in controlled environments, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that shows CBD as an anti-inflammatory which is a major contributing factor in clearing up many reversible human common ailments and even chronic disease.
CBD is an anti-inflammatory mechanism along with a general anti-depressant. These among other qualities of CBD help many underlying issues involved with many diseases and ailments.

Omega 6 to 3 Ratios
Technically we only have two “essential fatty acids” in the body and they are omega-3 and omega-6 which need to be acquired from outside sources.
Nutrition & Metabolism, on BioMed Central, the omega 6 to omega 3 ratio that normally exists in hemp is between 2:1 and 3:1. They go on to say this proportion of omega 3 and 6 is the ideal amount for a healthy diet. Thus making hemp the superior form of omega 3 and 6.
Omega-6 is pro-inflammatory, while omega-3 is anti-inflammatory.
Chronic inflammation may be one of the leading drivers of the most serious modern diseases, including heart disease, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s, and many types of cancer.
EFA’s (essential fatty acids)
Essential fatty acids are those that cannot be synthesized by the human body. This means that we must acquire these substances by themselves whole and ingest them that way.
PUFA’s (polyunsaturated fatty acids)
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA’s) were once thought to be healthy for the human body. Recent studies have shown that these long and unstable fats are unstable and break down easily leaving oxidation problems leading to a host of long-term health problems and premature aging.
PUFA’s as well as other oxidation and free radicals that build up in our cells over time can be managed effectively with strong antioxidants such as vitamin E and melatonin.
Managing PUFAs with Antioxidants
CBD and Vitamin E
Full and broad-spectrum CBD oils and extracts usually come with their own antioxidants, primarily vitamin E. Vitamin E is a free radical scavenger that helps to clean up oxidation issues with PUFA’s.
Another powerful antioxidant is melatonin which you can take separately and it’s even included in many CBD tincture formulations and recipes.
CBD EXTRACTION METHODS FOR MAKING TINCTURES
Here are the five most common extraction methods for making CBD tinctures:
#1 Carbon Dioxide (CO2) CBD Extraction Method
CO2 extraction uses supercritical carbon dioxide to separate the CBD oil from the plant material. “Supercritical” refers to the CO2 containing properties of both a liquid and a gas state, which is why you’ll sometimes see this method referred to as Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE).
#2 Cold Press Extraction Method
The Cold Press method of extracting CBD oil from hemp is by far the most natural, the most environmentally friendly, and results in a CBD oil that contains more elements of the hemp plant, in the ratios found in nature, for the best Entourage Effect.
#3 Solvent (Hydrocarbons and Natural Solvents) Extraction Method
This one is similar process to steam distillation process, except that it uses a solvent rather than water to separate the CBD oil from the plant material.
#4 Natural Solvent (Olive Oil) Extraction Method
Olive oil extraction is another method; however, it is not a viable option for larger companies. Due to it being labor-intensive while only producing a small yield of the product. During this method, the decarboxylated plant material is added to olive oil and heated for several hours. CBD infused olive oil is perishable and should be stored in a cool, dark place.
#5 Steam Distillation Extraction Method
With steam distillation, steam forces the CBD oil to separate out from the rest of the hemp plant.
The steam distillation method has been around a long time. It has been used to extract essential oils for centuries, but it’s less preferred to CO2extraction for efficiency reasons.
Lab Certified CBD Extracts and Tinctures
Any and all good outlets of CBD products online and offline will provide notification of third-party lab testing and certification of their products. This is the industry standard and should always be easily noticeable in plain sight.
