Green Lotus Overview

Green Lotus controls the CBD manufacturing process as all of their products are manufactured at their GMP-certified facility. The hemp they use is certified organic by OneCert, a company that can provide the USDA Certified Organic seal. Some of their products use environmentally friendly hemp paper packaging, which is a plus. We did have to do a bit of digging to find this information, and we wish it was more readily available on their website. But it doesn’t seem to be an intentional move on their part.

Another thing we noticed was the lack of third-party lab results on the website. The company uploaded documents of results produced in their own facilities, which can be a red flag, but since we tested the products ourselves and the results are pretty accurate, we aren’t too concerned. Green Lotus does list the names of the independent labs that test their products, so we’ll give them a half-point for transparency.

In addition to being a veteran-owned company, they offer a 25 percent discount to active service members as well as veterans. The company simply asks for your name and proof of your service, and after that has been approved you can receive 25 percent off all future purposes. We appreciate what this company is doing for veterans, and are thankful to see them be a voice in the medical cannabis/CBD space for other veterans.

Their prices are a little bit higher than we’d like to see, but they produce their products in-house, which offsets some of the cost.

The Good:

  • Veteran-owned and offers a 25 percent discount to active service members and veterans
  • Products are manufactured in-house
  • The hemp used is certified USDA organic
  • Diverse line of products

The Bad:

  • Not a lot of information on their website about their processes
  • Disorganized product section

Who Is Green Lotus CBD?

As we mentioned above, Green Lotus is a veteran-owned company. It was founded in 2016 by Marine Corps veteran Carlos Frias and his brother Alex. Frias is not new to the medical cannabis space: He founded a cannabis nonprofit and an investment fund 16 years ago.

His company Freedom Leaf merged with Green Lotus in 2019.[1] Freedom Leaf became Green Leaf brands, with Green Lotus as the flagship label. In 2019, Green Lotus became the first brand in the U.S. to legally export its CBD products to Mexico.[2]

Green Lotus has a great story and can connect to many people as a veteran-owned business. We wish the company’s story was shared a little bit more on the website so that more people can appreciate what they are doing.

Their Approach

Green Lotus is directly involved in every aspect of the process, from seed to sale. Their USDA-certified organic hemp farm is located in Colorado, and the company uses a CO2 method of extraction. They aim to produce high-quality products that are accessible to all.

We wish the brand went into more detail about why their approach is different. The About Us page is already somewhat hidden, but can be found by scrolling to the bottom of the site. On the page there is a scroller that explains their five-step process. We know that a brand that formulates its products in-house has a more unique approach than what we saw on the website, so we wish we could have seen that displayed.

Green Lotus: Product Highlights

As we mentioned above, the product line for this brand is pretty diverse. They offer traditional CBD tinctures, topicals, gummies and capsules, as well as some more unique products like pre-rolled CBD joints, cartridges and pet products. We wish the products were more clearly labeled as either an isolate, broad-spectrum or full-spectrum formula.

CBD Oils

You can choose from a few different strengths when you select your tincture. The oils start at 125 milligrams and go up to 1,500. The oil comes in three flavors: natural, orange and lemon. Their traditionally formulated oil costs between $24 and $149.95. This is a little bit on the pricier side, but the in-house manufacturing makes up for it.

CBD Softgels

Lotus CBD carries two kinds of softgels, one with 750 milligrams per bottle and the other with 1,500 milligrams per bottle. The 750 milligram bottle comes with 30 softgels and the 1,500 milligram bottle has 60.

Each softgel has 25 milligrams of CBD. Aside from CBD, the softgels contain additional ingredients like MCT oil, glycerin and gelatin. The gelatin in the CBD products disqualifies the products from being considered vegan. The price starts at $74.99 and goes up to $129.95.

CBD Edibles

Gummies are an excellent alternative to softgels and tinctures. They are also just a great-tasting way to get your CBD. Unlike the softgels, Green Lotus’ gummies are vegan. They are also kosher, non-GMO and gluten-free, and contain no dyes, according to the product description. You can choose between the nighttime gummies with added melatonin and a traditionally formulated CBD gummy with no melatonin.

The traditional CBD gummies come in either wild berry or strawberry flavors. They contain 10 milligrams of CBD per gummy and are available in either a six- or 25-count. The price ranges from $14.95 to $44.95.

The gummies with added melatonin also come in strawberry and wild berry, but according to the website the strawberry flavor is only available in a 30-count bottle, and the wild berry flavor is only available in a 25-count bottle or a pack of six, just like the standard gummies. They are in the same price range as the standard gummies, $14.95 to $44.95.

CBD Topicals

Green Lotus has a few topicals to choose from, but we don’t know the exact specifications because the product pages are inconsistent. We wish their topical products section was a little more organized and that the information was better conveyed.

One interesting thing we did find in the topicals section was this: “Green Lotus CBD Creams are crafted under the supervision of our lead formulator — a former research chemist and nutraceuticals expert with twenty years of experience in cosmetics development.” It is reassuring to know that the company is bringing experienced people to their team to ensure the highest-quality product possible.

The brand has two different topicals that claim to heat and cool the muscles. The Heat features eucalyptus for “strong skin,” and the Freeze has chamomile for “skin hydration.”

Both of these products have menthol as their main ingredient, which can provide a heating or cooling effect. Freeze is promoted as a “cool, fresh sensation,” while Heat works by “gently warming stiff muscles.” They are pretty similar in formulation so we don’t know if it is worth purchasing both; however, the ingredients in both products look good so we recommend purchasing at least one. They both cost $32.99.

It is hard to determine just how strong the salve by Green Lotus is. The product image shows it to be 250 milligrams, but the website’s product title says 100 milligrams. Either way, the additional ingredients are great. It features grapefruit peel oil, jojoba oil and white lily extract. However, at $46 a jar, we would like to be able to know exactly how much CBD is in the product.

Green Lotus has also developed a product called Solace, which is formulated with a proprietary wellness blend called Celadrin. The purpose of Celadrin, which uses the main ingredient of menthol, is to reduce inflammation in the joints and to increase mobility.[3] Once again, we are unsure of the actual CBD content of this product. The packaging reads 100 milligrams and the product’s description reads 200 milligrams.

Other CBD Products

In addition to the products mentioned above, Green Lotus offers vape cartridges, pre-rolled joints and pet products. The brand also offers a monthly subscription program of 15 percent, which is not uncommon for a CBD brand, but it is definitely an added bonus.

Our Lab Findings

Our goal is to give you an honest, unbiased review of CBD brands. We couldn’t do this without testing the product, so we send every product we review to a third-party lab.

We sent a sample of Green Lotus’ full-spectrum formula off to the lab and were pretty satisfied with the results. There were 120 milligrams of CBD detected in the lab, and the label reads 125 milligrams. This is less than a 10 percent difference, so this is considered to be normal. However, we believe the cannabinoid profile overall could be a little more robust.

There are definitely other cannabinoids present, so you are getting that entourage effect, but a more potent profile could improve this product. The test detected 3 milligrams of THC, 3 milligrams of CBG and 6 milligrams of CBC in our sample, but no CBN. This product did pass the pesticide and solvents test.

Overall, the lab results are pretty good. The amount of CBD that showed up on our test is about the same as the label indicates, which is the most important part. We do believe that a fuller cannabinoid profile could improve this product.

Shipping and Returns

Green Lotus offers free shipping on every order, no minimum purchase amount required. We love this, and believe it underscores their goal of being an accessible CBD brand. Green Lotus does not ship internationally, but they do ship to all 50 states and generally send your order out in one or two business days using Priority Mail through USPS or UPS.

Our order from Green Lotus came through really fast. We purchased our product just as any other customer would in order to give you the genuine experience. We put our order in on a Tuesday and our package was shipped out the very next day. It was in the mailbox three days later.

Green Lotus gives you a full 30 days to try their products and determine if you like it. If you are not satisfied within that time period, you can contact customer service for a full refund. When we talked to customer service, we got a response to our email in a few hours. They were excited to welcome us to the products and shared important and relevant information about them.

Our Verdict on Green Lotus

Overall, we think that Green Lotus is definitely worth trying. We wish the website was a little more streamlined and better organized, but this is no reason not to purchase from them. We also would have liked to see more information about the brand’s specific processes, what makes them unique and their backstory.

The cannabinoid profile is there and the CBD content is within a 10 percent variance from the label, making it acceptable by industry standards. Green Lotus offers free shipping and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, so there is really no risk in trying.
