Indoor vaping banned, hot car rescues allowed as new laws take effect in Nebraska – Grand Island Independent

{{featured_button_text}} LINCOLN — Starting Saturday, vapers will have to join smokers in indulging their habits outside of public places and work sites. A new Nebraska law bans the use of e-cigarettes and other electronic smoking devices in all places that smoking is now banned. That includes restaurants, bars, office buildings, retail stores and other indoor workplaces. Under state law, an exception is made for licensed vape shops, which are shops that do not sell alcohol or gasoline and which do not let in customers under age 21. However, local ordinances may be more strict. “This change is about protecting Nebraskans […]

Office building, manufacturing facilities, stores, restaurants, bars, and other indoor settings are off-limits for vapers, per the passage of Legislative Bill 840. One of the only legal exemptions for indoor vaping include retailers of vape products and devices, other specialty establishments that sell similar products like craft tobacconists. Governor of Nebraska Weighs In On Legalized Cannabis in South Dakota

Even as historically conservative states have embraced legalization, reefer madness is alive and well in Nebraska. At least with the state’s governor, Pete Ricketts, who on Tuesday once again sounded the alarm on something that a growing majority of the country is cool with. “Well, we’ve certainly seen in other states like Colorado when you pass legalization of recreational, as well as medicinal, marijuana that you see an increase in traffic fatalities that are caused by marijuana use and an increase in a number of other things such as young people getting a hold of the marijuana,” Ricketts said, as […]

Nebraska Medical Cannabis Advocates Try Again For Legalization in 2022: Legalization Watch – Cannabis Business Times

In 1971, philosopher John Rawls came up with the “Veil of Ignorance.” The concept is pretty simple: You start with the idea that you know nothing of your circumstances at birth—wealth, gender, education, etc.—and then ask yourself if you would be ok with the current social contract in which you live. Let’s conduct this thought experiment for the current cannabis industry: Imagine you do not know anything about your current situation—capital, abilities, partners, etc. Would you sign up to make a go of it in today’s cannabis industry with its poorly implemented regulations, federal illegality, non-experts peddling their expertise, and […]

Nebraska Activists Unveil New Medical Marijuana Initiative For 2022 Following Supreme Court Defeat

Cool, now the court will make sure that no one can grow or distribute it. This wasn’t a legal problem, but a political one. The reasoning of the majority opinion was a farce; it was decided that way for the purpose of keeping the initiative off of the ballot in order to suppress Democratic-leaving independent voters. Nebraska Supreme Court declines to rule on prosecution of CBD cases – Blair Enterprise Publishing

The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled to dismiss charges against the owners of a Herman convenience store, but declined to provide direction on how to prosecute cases involving cannabidiol, also known as CBD products. The opinion, written by Chief Justice Mike Heavican, was released Friday. Washington County Attorney Scott Vander Schaaf and defense attorney Mallory Hughes made their arguments before the court Sept. 4. Vander Schaaf filed an appeal in July 2019 after District Court Judge John E. Samson dismissed a case against two Washington County residents accused of illegally distributing cannabidiol at DJ’s Vapes, 408 Main St., Herman, for a […]

Cannabis Activists in Nebraska Are Starting Their Own Weed Political Party

Image via Cannabis activists in Nebraska just submitted 15,000 signatures on a petition to create a new political party committed to weed reform. Mark Elworth Jr. has been working to bring the “Legal Marijuana Now Party” to Nebraska for six years. Elworth submitted a similar petition in 2016, but ended up not having enough valid signatures to succeed. This year, activists collected 15,000 signatures, more than double the 6,800 signatures needed to qualify, which should be enough to ensure that the party is approved.  The Legal Marijuana Now Party was originally established in Minnesota in the late 1990s and became […]

Nebraska medical marijuana supporters to try, try again

Whether by legislation or by initiative petition, supporters of the legalization of medical marijuana in Nebraska will try again in the next two years. They will also partner with other advocacy groups to develop a medical marijuana scorecard so Nebraskans know where candidates and elected officials stand on the issue, and Sen. Anna Wishart plans to introduce a bill in the next session to put before the Legislature. The group Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana collected 110% of required signatures — 182,000 — for the initiative, in spite of the COVID-19 pause in signature gathering. But Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner […]

The Fight For Medical Cannabis In Nebraska Continues – HempGazette

Celebrations for medical cannabis access being added to Nebraska’s ballot in November turned out to be very short-lived. But the fight goes on. There is no medical marijuana program in Nebraska currently and no other allowances for patients. That may have changed after the November election. Late last month we reported Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana had announced its amendment supporting patient access to medical marijuana would appear on the November ballot. More than 182,000 petition signatures were delivered to support the initiative. However, the group expected a legal fight to keep it there and certainly got one. Late last week, […]
