Patients enrolled in the state’s medical cannabis access program will be able to purchase cannabis-infused edible products from licensed dispensaries for the first time, under legislation recently signed into law by Democratic Gov. David Ige. Hawaii’s Out-of-State Medical Marijuana Program in Trouble Due to COVID-19

Hawaii’s out-of-state medical marijuana program, which allows registered patients in other medical marijuana states to temporarily apply for a card to use while visiting Hawaii, is facing significant losses due to COVID-19. With travel restrictions and less individuals taking vacations due to the pandemic, June registered the lowest point of registry (just 86 patients) since the program’s inception in early 2019.  February marked the highest point of out-of-state medical marijuana participation with 718 patients. Nearly half of Hawaii high school students and a third of middle school students have tried e-cigarettes, according to data released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2019, 48.3% of high school students and 30.6% of middle school students surveyed in the state said they tried e-cigarettes at some point, says the 2020 report released Aug. 20 as part of the agency’s Youth Risk Behavioral Surveillance System.
