How Honeydew Farms Grew Into the Legalized Cannabis Market

California’s Lost Coast is often described as wild and unruly – a scene of jagged mountains, fluffy firs and hillsides that give way to the agitated tides of the Pacific. The coastline that spans Humboldt and Mendocino counties is without any major highways thanks to the engineering challenges of building among the craggy landscape. In the foothills of the Lost Coast’s King Range lies Honeydew Farms – a cannabis farm that is anything but lost and unruly. Shots of the ranch reveal neat rows of marijuana plants – weighed down with fat colas ripe for harvest. Unlike many growers who […]

Strain Review: Gorilla Glue #5

It’s practically impossible to overstate the popularity of Gorilla Glue #4; its unique pungency and first-class effects have won the strain gold medals at major cannabis cups and the earnest affection of millions of cannabis aficionados. On little more than word of mouth, its reputation has climbed higher than King Kong on the Empire State building, which is roughly how elevated you’ll be from just one or two hits of this much-loved monster. Apart from Girl Scout Cookies (the undisputed people’s champ of the moment) and OG Kush — the ubiquitous cornerstone of most kush crosses and a timeless classic — […]

San Francisco Bans Tobacco in Apartments, Allows Cannabis

San Francisco has been stirring the pot with cannabis enthusiasts for a while now, as threats of a smoking ban in apartments loomed over consumers who worried they wouldn’t have a place to smoke. Now, the state has made a bold move, banning tobacco but exempting cannabis inside apartments.  The ban, which was passed 10-to-one, was made to keep secondhand smoke out of buildings in which smoke could potentially impact other residents. They deemed that three or more units in a building should be tobacco-smoke free.  “The problem is, smoke easily moves between units and there is no way to […]

What’s The Deal with Sungrown Cannabis?

Leading stoner comedian Ngaio Bealum is the creator of the album “Weed & Sex,” a frequent guest on “Getting Doug with High” starring Doug Benson, and a regular cannabis festival MC. He’s also our very own Dear Dabby, here to answer your most pertinent questions about the plant we all love. Why do people prefer sungrown cannabis? — Al Natural That’s a good question. I wouldn’t say that everyone prefers outdoor, er, sungrown cannabis. I remember 10 years ago, when indoor weed was all the rage and no one wanted outdoor weed, especially during harvest season. We used to have gigantic debates about which weed […]

California Claims Cannabis Billboards Have Been Displayed Improperly

California just made a significant ruling that is bad for cannabis advertisers who favor the billboard format, but good for those who want to see more regulation. Apparently, officials have been allowing highway-facing billboards that should have been banned on the 2016 bill that legalized recreational cannabis.  The ruling was made by San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Judge Ginger E. Garrett, who judged that the Bureau of Cannabis Control “exceeded their authority in promulgating the advertisement placement regulation” when they allowed billboards to be displayed in certain areas that have been ruled off-limits by the state.  According to the […]

On the High End: How Sherbinski Made Himself Into a Top Cannabis Brand

In the early 2000s, that golden age of Proposition 215 cannabis in California, Mario “Mr. Sherbinski” Guzman was a regular supplier for San Francisco’s legendary Vapor Room. Back then, nobody had heard the name Sherbinski and the notion of a cannabis brand was still an abstraction. Today, nearly two decades later, his company Sherbinskis is on the short list of still-relevant adult-use brands with uninterrupted roots in California’s self-regulated 215 market. But before Sherbinski’s cannabis was getting name-dropped in rap hits and sold through fancy department stores, Afgoo cold water hash washed from Sherbinski bud by the man himself was a menu staple at […]

San Diego Sues to Collect Unpaid Cannabis Taxes

The city of San Diego just announced a lawsuit against businesses that work with the city and failed to pay their city cannabis taxes, money the city counts on coming in from the cannabis industry in order to keep infrastructure running.  It’s no surprise the city is upset about missing this tax money, as they can use it to help with budget cuts in the face of more COVID-19-related expenses, which are inevitably coming this winter. Not only will there be expenses, but other industries the city relies on, such as tourism and hotel taxes, have been drastically reduced, so […]

New Personal Filter Eliminates 97% of Secondhand Vapor and Smell – Vaping Daily

A California-based tech company has recently released a “vape filter”. It claims that the filter reduces exposure to smoke and vape aerosol by 97%. The Phreedom (as it is called) attaches to any 510-threaded battery and cartridge. This way it acts as the device’s mouthpiece. The vapor is filtered as the user inhales it. Users also exhale into the device, which is what cuts down on the odor and exposure to secondhand vapor. The company, Philter Labs, has created several filtering devices for vapes (both nicotine and cannabis vapes). All the filters use nanofiltration technology to cut down the particulate […]
