Jon’s Stone-Cold Quarantine Cop List: 7th Heaven

So when do you guys think things might get back to normal? What even is normal anymore? Is this normal now? Oh god, I hope MedMen was wrong—but I digress. Assuming most of us haven’t been deemed essential enough to get the vaccine yet, and most of us are still spending a good deal of time alone, we’re keeping this party rockin’, baby! Sure I’m losing my mind a bit but hey, what fun is reality? I read somewhere that people are experimenting more with psychedelics than ever given all the time at home and I just want to say: […]

California Cannabis Workers Now Included In First Phase of COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

Those working in California’s medical cannabis industry are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, under new guidelines issued last week by the state’s department of public health.  Those workers are included under Phase 1A, the highest priority tier for the coronavirus vaccination, a “clarification” the agency said was necessary due to “to overlapping definitions in the Health Care and Public Health and Food and Agriculture Essential Workforce definitions.” The department says that Phase 1A eligibility includes individuals “at risk of direct patient exposure in settings” that are included under California’s essential workforce list.  This “includes both clinical and non-clinical roles,” […]

The microbiome and cannabis for Covid-19 prevention

Recommendations during this pandemic have shifted as science is tested and twisted. Contrary to better health, the CEO of Pepsico told Yahoo Finance they were able to release Cheetos Mac and Cheese in the middle of 2020 due to the populous gaining trust for packaged goods this year. So, is it unethical to discuss how cannabis can affect Covid-19 by supporting our microbiome health? Antibodies and a trillion little critters in your gut Our bodies contain 100 trillion cells that are not our own. The make-up of these cells is collectively known as our microbiome. Until recently, we thought this […]

Can masks cause DNA damage prevented by cannabis?

The use of face masks has been controversial during the pandemic considering a lack of adequate scientific study, even though they have been used in hospitals for decades without noticeable issues. However, scientific evidence does suggest masks can restrict a user’s ability to breathe. Respiratory inhibition led us to a link between masks and decreased immunity, genetic modification, and DNA damage via oxidative stress. How can cannabis affect these symptoms as a major agent of redox homeostasis? CO2, masks, and you If we ignore statements that disclose a lack of scientific evidence due to limitations, masks help more than they […]

Silver Linings of Cannabis in 2020

It’s easy to sit back in seclusion and complain about what a difficult year 2020 has been. Yes, we have all encountered great tribulations and changes we never expected. Still Standing: Northern California’s 2020 Harvest In Review

The harvest was glorious, mellow and abundant. It was sunny and mostly warm up until the first week of November, when forecasts of the first rain and then a hard frost mandated that we cut the final cultivar a few days early.  Other than the unfortunate farms that burned and lost their whole crops, and some other growers in the immediate area who were smoked out, the 2020 California sungrown cannabis crop doesn’t seem to have suffered much testable damage. Photo Nikki Lastreto Every harvest is different, but I would be lying if I didn’t report the unique challenges the […]

Nicotine therapies showing tremendous promise as possible COVID therapeutic

Approximately 25 percent of French citizens are active, daily smokers.  Since smoking is long considered to increase the health risks of contracting respiratory diseases including emphysema and bronchitis, medical experts in France were understandably surprised when the first coronavirus statistics were reported in the early days of the pandemic.  Researchers reviewing data compiled from the Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris noted that only five percent of the initial 482 COVID-19 patients hospitalized between February 28 to April 9, 2020, were regular smokers.  While comparative ratios varied slightly in China, the United States, and even other regions of France, the numbers followed […]
