What does CBD stand for?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, and it’s the second most prevalent chemical ingredient, or cannabinoid, found in cannabis. But unlike THC, the other main cannabinoid in cannabis, it does not have psychoactive effects.

While CBD is available in a few forms, oil is the most common because it’s easily ingestible and generally contains a higher percentage of CBD than most other forms. It’s created from a concentrated extract made from cannabis flowers or leaves that are dissolved in an edible oil such as olive oil or sunflower oil. Because CBD is unregulated and largely unstudied, its effects are speculative. Many people report it relieves a host of different conditions like anxiety, pain, and insomnia, reduces inflammation throughout the body, alleviates symptoms associated with gastrointestinal disorders, and minimizes the side effects from chemotherapy.

How much CBD should you take?

Figuring out how much CBD you should take is one of the great unknowns. Because of the lack of research, docs can’t properly study it, so how much to take is anyone’s guess and could vary from person to person and from product to product. Before taking it, first talk with your doctor because it could have drug interactions, which can interfere with medications you’re currently taking. Then start slow and see how your body reacts.

How do you use CBD oil for pain?

Some experts recommend CBD as an oil that you put under your tongue for a faster onset or in pill or capsule form, which delivers a slow, extended release. Before you take anything, talk with your doctor and go slow. If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal, your doctor may recommend taking CBD along with a low dose of THC because researchers believe the two work better together to treat pain. If you are taking a bit of THC, experts advise doing so at night, so you sleep off any psychoactive effects.
