It’s allowed in the Netherlands and historically its use was lower than in surrounding countries. Legalization or decriminalization generally does not lead to an increase in use, except for an initial bump of new users wanting to try it out.

A rise in use has long been an argument of detractors of more liberal approaches and it has always been a bad one because it was never shown to be the case.

I’m a bit surprised and disappointed in how casually legality is used as an explanation in a sub like r/cannabis, not to mention how it’s interpreted as a positive thing. All drugs should be legalized, but if it turns out that that causes a rise in use, then we should figure out why that is and solve it, instead of celebrating it because hey, it’s just weed.
